Black in the Art of Tea: Shape and Texture

Black-lacquered natsume (tea caddy), black Raku tea bowls— there are many black utensils found in the tea ceremony, since black is a color which has a strong power of making an object’s shape and function stand out.

This exhibition features the color of black used in the world of tea ceremony, which helps viewers to focus on the functionality of the shapes of natsume and tea bowls and to enjoy the effect caused by the black-colored texture of them.
