Red, Yellow, Green, Blue and Black:
Delightful Colors in Art

March 20, 2020 to July 31, 2020

Speaking of the components of a painting, there are: subjects and themes, expressions of light and darkness, drawing of lines, color palettes, compositions and so on. Among them, the use of colors is one of the most influential factors which create the whole impression of a particular painting. Colors have been used not only to recreate the shape of objects, but also as a method to express natural phenomena such as light and atmosphere, and even the painter’s own emotions. It is possible to say that paintings are visualizations of the world captured by the painter’s eyes and sensitivity, and that is the reason why the painters have been tirelessly studying the science of color and seeking for the most appropriate way of coloring to express their own world.

In this exhibition, paintings are sorted into five colors: red, yellow, green, blue and black. The color-based composition of the exhibition clarifies the difference of appearance caused by different painting materials, balances among colors, effects of each color, and thus the relationship between the paintings and the colors emerges much more vividly. Please enjoy the fertile world of paintings where colors are interacting and collaborating.
