Hosomi Museum in Okazaki, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto was established in 1998 for the purpose of exhibiting the collection of three generations of the Hosomi Family starting from Hosomi Ryō (Kokōan I), who became successful in the wool industry in Osaka. Its collection is known as one of the best collections in the world of Japanese art, which covers most artistic time periods and fields.
In this exhibition, many works of Itō Jakuchū, a painter representing the middle of Edo period art, are presented, along with other items selected from Hosomi collection with the theme of Kyoto: paintings of famous sites in Kyoto, illustrated stories, makie lacquer works, tea bowls and kettles. Through these precious masterpieces, the exhibition introduces various aspects of the charm of Japanese art.
