Kamigata-e: The Osaka’s Colorful Prints

October 20, 2019 to March 1, 2020

Osaka’s theatrical print production is a significant chapter of the long and glorious history of ukiyo-e. Neglected for a long time by scholars and by the general public, at the end of the last century these prints became the subject of in-depth research and important exhibitions. This allowed us to shed light on a small production, really original and of extraordinary executive quality.

With the exhibition Kamigata-e: the Osaka’s colorful prints, the Museum of Palazzo Poggi, in collaboration with Centro Studi d’Arte Estremo-Orientale, invites you to discover the vibrant and original culture of the early nineteenth century Osaka: a selection of 29 woodcuts coming from the collections of the Centro Studi d’Arte Estremo-Orientale e della Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna, and on loan for use at the University of Bologna, will be on display until March 1, 2020.
