Special Exhibition for the New Year
Nō and Auspicious Symbols — Kotohogi —

December 24, 2019 to January 26, 2020

To celebrate the new year, this exhibition focuses on various auspicious symbols and patterns such as “shōchikubai (pine tree, bamboo and plum tree)” “takarazukushi (collection of treasures)” and “ōgi (fan),” found in the designs of costumes and other craft works.

In addition, the exhibition introduces “Shakkyō” “Shōjō” and some other celebratory programs through the masterpieces of masks, alongside the museum’s recent acquisition of a set of three hanging scrolls, Shakkyō and Peonies by Suzuki Shuitsu, 19th century, Edo to Meiji Period, which will be the first time to be on display.

Please enjoy the world of plays and gorgeous patterns in the joyous atmosphere of the new year.
