The presented Shijō-Surimono – illustrated woodblock printed poetry sheets – from the Gisela Müller and Erich Gross Donation bring together haiku poems with lyrical and humorous designs by artists of the naturalist-decorative Shijō painting tradition. Produced for amateur literary circles, Shijō-Surimono impress with their imaginative motifs and rich colour palettes.
