Yamamoto Nizō (1953 – ) has been active as one of leading background painters and artistic directors of Japanese animation. Yamamoto served as an artistic director in many famous titles such as “Future Boy Conan” (1978), “Castle in the Sky” (1986), “Grave of the Fireflies” (1988), “Princess Mononoke” (1997) and “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” (2006), and received high acclaim from all quarters.
In this exhibition, some 220 items are presented from his early works to the most recent, mainly background paintings for animation, including preliminary sketches and image boards.
