Kishida Riusei (1891-1929) was a Japanese painter, active from the Taisho through the Showa eras. He is most well-known for his portraits of his beloved daughter, Reiko, yet he worked in a variety of genres, including portrait, still life, and landscape, producing creative works until his untimely death at the age of 38. We know the dates of most of his works from both the works themselves and from his journal. This exhibition shows approximately 160 pieces in chronological order, from his early years until the end of his life, including the well-known “Portrait of Reiko” (Important Cultural Property) and a long-lost works, following in the footsteps of his artistic career. Enjoy the charm of Kishida’s paintings which maintain their strength even after 90 years since his death.
